TUMBES
Beaches and mangrove swamps
With a coastline of warm beaches and possessing a great ichthyological richness that favors the fishing activity, the north is ideal for the rest and the practice of nautical sports, alternating with the visits to its imposing deserts, green valleys, reserves and parks as the Tumbes National Forest, Cerros de Amotape National Park, Coto de Caza El Angolo and National Mangrove Sanctuary, without forgetting the medicinal lagoons known for their curative values. As for the gastronomy of this area, they are prepared mostly based on marine products. The north preserves its customs and manifests them through its folklore, like the famous tondero and the Paso horses.
In Tumbes, inhabited by old settlers known as the Tumpis, Francisco Pizarro disembarked, beginning one of the most transcendental chapters of our history: the Conquest; since then it would become an important point of contact with Europe in the time of the colony. Currently being a border area with Ecuador, it has international traffic and strong commercial movement.
