Colonial and Archaeological
One of the most picturesque and attractive colonial cities of the Peruvian coast, in whose surroundings flourished important pre-Columbian cultures like the Mochica and the Chimú; who left important archaeological sites such as “Chan Chan”, the largest mud city in the world, whose extension is approximately 18 km2 and was declared by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage of Humanity; the “Temple of the Moon”, of beautiful murals in high relief, with Mochica motifs; the “Temple of the Sun”, the highest adobe temple in America; the “Balneario de Huanchaco”, where until today the millenary tradition of traditional fishing in the “caballitos de totora” remains; and the recent complex, “El Brujo”, whose discoveries are increasingly astonishing to the world.
Trujillo was founded in 1534, by Diego de Almagro, and later confirmed in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro. Area of excellent characteristics for agriculture, crops like sugar cane and wheat were introduced. Important buildings such as haciendas, mansions and the school of Jesuits are vestiges of an enormous prosperity. The “city of eternal spring”, for its pleasant climate, is the capital of the dance of the “marinera”; whose national contest paralyzes Peru. Trujillo is considered the third most important city in the country, thanks to its rich past and deep-rooted tradition, today it faces the future as one of the most prosperous areas in commerce and industry.
