Historic City
Located in the northern Andes, it is surrounded by a charming landscape and pleasant weather. Agricultural and livestock region, recently driven to the mining. It reached its greatest development between the years 500 and 1000 of our era, as “Culture Caxamarca”. Around 1450, during the government of the Inca Pachacútec, his brother Cápac Yupanqui conquers the region and annex it to the Tahuantinsuyo. In November 1532, Cajamarca was the scene of one of the most momentous events in history, when a group of Spaniards, under the command of the conquerer Francisco Pizarro, took prisoner the Inca Atahualpa, causing the meeting of two worlds, the origin of the mestizaje and a new era in the history of Peru. On September 14, 1986, the OAS declared it as a Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Americas.
